Through a series of educational activities such as tours, storytelling, role-playing, art appreciation, and games, children learn to express various aspects of Chinese culture and arts. Below are the children’s learning journey and outcomes.
N1Children in N1 learn about traditional festivals like Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival, animals, and plants through nursery rhymes, stories, exploration activities, and games. They have created artworks like lanterns, colorful peacocks, dragons, and pandas.
Children in N2learn about ancient Chinese utensils, clothing, and traditional festival activities through nursery rhymes, stories, videos, games, and exploration activities. They created blue and white porcelain, clay plates, lion puppets, and small soldiers.
Children in N3 learn about the Chinese zodiac, ancient decorations, shadow puppetry, and Chinese folk tales through visits to the Hong Kong Art Museum, storytelling, and art appreciation. They have created ink-wash landscape paintings, paper dragons, stories of the Chinese zodiac in shadow puppetry, blue and white porcelain, dough dolls, and Chinese mythical beasts.
Children in N4learned about “Along the River During the Qingming Festival,” ancient and modern costumes, utensils, and Cantonese opera through visits to the Hong Kong Art Museum, storytelling, role-playing, and art appreciation. They created replicas of the famous painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival,” clay utensils, Cantonese opera facial masks, terracotta warriors, blue and white porcelain, New Year photo studios, and banners.
On June 3, 2023, our school held a Chinese Culture and Parent-Child Arts Day, showcasing the art projects from each grade level in the main hall. Children actively introduced their learning journeys and outcomes to their parents. Additionally, the school designed a series of parent-child activities allowing both parents and children to experience traditional Chinese arts and crafts, such as parent-child art activities, kicking shuttlecock, hoopla, grasshopper weaving, dough figures, and sachet making. This deepens the understanding of Chinese culture among parents and children.
According to a parent survey, 100% of parents agree that the event helped them understand their children’s learning in the theme of Chinese culture, improved the parents’ and children’s understanding and interest in Chinese culture, and fostered a sense of national identity among the children.
