Brief Discriptions

During the project study on "Yum Cha," the children showed a strong interest in the topic. As a result, they decided to visit a teahouse to experience yum cha firsthand. Upon arrival, the children tried ordering tea from the staff. They then recalled the names of dim sum mentioned earlier in the morning with the teacher and proceeded to place their orders.

While waiting for the dim sum to be served, the teacher guided the children to remember dining etiquette, such as rinsing the utensils before use. Since the hot water provided by the teahouse was too hot for the children to handle directly, the teacher prepared warm water and reviewed the steps of cleaning the utensils with them before allowing them to do it on their own.

Later, parent volunteers helped pour tea, and the children learned and practiced the tea-tapping gesture (tapping the table three times with five fingers) to demonstrate proper yum cha etiquette – thank you. When the dim sum arrived, most children could accurately name the items. Before eating, the teacher led them in observing the appearance and features of the dim sum and revisiting related knowledge.

The children showed great enthusiasm for the dim sum, especially enjoying BBQ pork bun (char siu bao) and Malay sponge cake. They praised the delicious flavours and ate heartily, consuming a considerable amount.
