Brief Discriptions
In the project study of ‘Tie-dyeing’, children learned that indigo plants can be used as a material for creating blue dye. Through participating in this Tie-dying Parent-child Workshop, children were able to deepen their understanding of ancient Chinese tie-dye craftsmanship.
During the workshop, the teacher and children learned various tie-dye techniques one by one, such as marble dyeing, spiral dyeing, triangle dyeing, and circle dyeing. Afterwards, the children were encouraged to explore and create their own unique tie-dye designs, allowing them to experience the process firsthand. The children were highly focused and engaged throughout, gaining a lot from the experience. At the end, parents and children admired each other’s creations together.
Through this activity, both parents and children not only learned about the Bai ethnic group’s traditional tie-dye techniques, but also applied the skills they had learned during the workshop. The experience allowed them to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture through hands-on creation and mutual appreciation. The outcomes of the activity aligned well with its objectives, showing that it successfully deepened both parents’ and children’s understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
